A guide who does not tell what is the best of a city is more useless than McDonald's salad and New Year's resolutions together ... So let's get in the mess: we introduce you the best 25 things to see and do in Bangkok, one of our favorite cities and where we have passed, uff we already lost count

If you want more information for your trip, visit our THAILAND TRAVEL GUIDE

1. Visit their temples It is without a doubt the main thing we recommend you to do in Bangkok. From the Wat Arun to the Buddha lying on the Wat Pho ... the variety is not missing! That city has some of the best Buddhist temples in the world, so spend at least an entire day to make a route for the best. If you want to know what they are, check out the post “The 10 best temples in Bangkok”

2. One of the funniest ways to get to know the city is sail along Chao Phraya river. Leave luxury cruises: get on local boats that only cost 10-20 baht depending on the route! The best time for this "tour" is around 6:00 p.m., when the sky in Bangkok dresses in your best suit. Of course, if you have some budget and want to hit a whim ... a luxury cruise is not a bad idea! There are some that offer cruise + dinner + show for about € 50.

3. The parks are not lacking, and luckily: you will see that you will feel like relaxing and relaxing! The biggest is the Lumphini ParkIn the first and last hour you can enjoy the old men (and not so much) who do tai-chi, yoga or jogging trying to avoid the giant lizards that live in their lakes. If you are in the Khao San Road area and need to disconnect from the chaos, the Santichaiprakan Park It will be your particular oasis.

4. Explore Chinatown, is one of the most curious and crazy neighborhoods you'll ever see. Each alley has something surprising, be it a duck that hangs in the food bars, red rice paper lamps, cooks in flip flops and a robe that fry skewers or street markets where there is no needle. Maximum madness!

5. Enjoy the food: the Thai gastronomy It is undoubtedly one of the most delicious in the world, and if you are like a good meal, it will be your paradise! Do not miss the post "The best Thai foods" and do not forget to accompany your dishes with the richest local beers: Chang and Singha. In this post, we also tell you which are our favorite places to eat in Bangkok.

6. Give yourself a massage! Few places in the world offer such good and cheap massages as Bangkok, so take advantage, at all times and everywhere there are irresistible offers. (An hour can cost 150-300 bahts).

7. Go see a muay thai match. There is no Thai who has no passion for this fighting sport. In addition, they recently released a new law that does not allow children to compete. The main combats are made at Ratchadamnoen Stadium and Lumpini Stadium, prices vary between 800-2,000 THB. You can make the online reservation of an afternoon of boxing in from here. But if you want to enjoy the free show, there are the "Sunday afternoon Muay Thai in a TV studio": some combats that are recorded for TV. More info here

  • Where? The stadium is in Soi Ruamsirimirt.
  • When? Sundays at 14.30
Find cheap accommodationin Bangkokhere. We usually stay at the Rambuttri Village Plaza or the Nouvo City Hotel (if there are offers, of course)

8. Know the financial zone, Siam and Silom They are its main neighborhoods. It is full of skyscrapers not suitable for those who suffer from vertigo, shopping centers, bars and super fashion restaurants. It is a good area to find nice and cheap hotel offers (and if you have a pool with views, much better).

9. The Dusit Palace It is interesting and quiet, without doubt the most beautiful is the Vimanmek teak house. (If you visit the Royal Palace the entrance includes a visit to the Dusit Palace).

10. Walk through Khao San Road, to soak up your backpacking atmosphere, have some skewers of grilled meat or a pad thai for € 1, buy some books for a few bahts, find other travelers or just stroll under the gaze of the neons. Don't miss your neighbor Khao Rambuttri: much quieter with good, beautiful and cheap street food and clothing stands ... It's our favorite street!

11. The occasions to learn new knowledge will not be lacking: either cooking classes, muay thai, thai or massage... If you have time, why not invest it in expanding your skills? We remain, no doubt, with the cooking course. This costs € 26 and they are super well invested if you think you are going to eat fancy and that you will learn how to reproduce the same dishes at home. We are very fans of that hehe.

12. Thailand is a paradise for shopping lovers: dresses, paintings, fabrics, jewelry, furniture, they are beautiful and at bargain prices! If you want take a few souvenirs home, take advantage of your stay in Bangkok. Tip: if you want to visit a huge market, go to Chatuchak, open every Sunday. Do not miss the experience of walking through a shopping mall. Most tourists go to MBK but we like the Terminal 21.

13. You can't leave Bangkok without going around in yourmost typical means of transport: the tuk tuk. Although sometimes we have thought that going in tuk tuk is equivalent to practicing a risk sport, Extreme Challenge style, we cannot stop wanting to practice it! Super fun and (although less and less) authentic (but don't be ripped off!)

14. Upload to one of the most famous skyscrapers in the city. Ok, it costs you more than the tripe than a cocktail at street level, but taking them contemplating Bangkok “under your feet” is priceless! (The best bars are the Vertigo and the Sirocco).

15. And after the tall cocktail, try the “width”. If you have not heard of “bucket"Go to a bar and ask for one ... laughs and little night-drunk assured! (Almost better if you share it with someone huh!).

16. Enjoy the thai fruitIt is simply delicious. And what about the milkshakes? Addictive! And of course don't leave without having tried the famous (and smelly) Durian... there are those who hate him and who loves him, I don't tell you anything else 😉

17. If you always dreamed of a custom suit It is your occasion! From € 40-50 you have reproductions of the best costumes (of course, the more you pay, the more beautiful and quality it will be). If you're not an expert at all, you probably get the worst fabric they have, but boy, that's what it is!

18. Enter a 7eleven. I know they are simple mini-supermarkets, but we love them! Either to go in to buy something to drink, something to snack, listen to the doorbell or just to take a “bath” of fresh air (better say frozen). Your star product without any doubt are the warm sandwiches! You have not been to Thailand if you did not end the night eating a sandwich of those hehe.

19. Live the experience of listen to the anthem. The first time we went to the train station in Bangkok it was 8 in the morning and suddenly everyone stopped, stood still and showed respect when they heard a melody: the king's anthem! At 8 and 18: 00 ... very curious! Definitely one of the things what to see and do in Bangkok!

20. On our last visit we went to meet the ari neighborhood, the more hipster and alternative from the city. If you like atypical areas, you will love it. It reminded us a lot of our beloved Chiang Mai and its Nimmanhaemin neighborhood.

21. If you travel in the rainy season, you may have a few hours of water. Take advantage of them to learn more about the history of Thailand in the National Gallery, the Bangkok Folk Museum or the Bangkok National Museum. If you want to see a rare museum, visit the Forensic Museum, but if you have a sensitive stomach… you better not enter!

22. Learn the Bangkok's real name: “Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosindra Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit ” which is supposed to mean “City of angels, the great city, the city of the eternal jewel, the impenetrable city of the god Indra, the magnificent capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the happy city, which abounds in a colossal Royal Palace which resembles the divine domicile where reincarnated gods reign, a city provided by Indra and built by Vishnukarn. ” There we left it!

23. One thing that remains pending (I will not involve Rober in that) is to go to Brown unicorn XD The truth is that in Bangkok there are many rare places and restaurants, there is even a place where roast chickens fly.

24. Make one Ayutthaya excursion, a small city and that in the past was the capital of the kingdom. There you will see a few super interesting temples (yes, they are ruins). We recommend you to do the excursion for free, it is very simple since you simply have to take a train (very cheap!). But if you prefer to go on a guided tour, check out this one.

25. She is a tourist, but if she has time you might like ... I talk about going to a Floating Market (Damnoen Saduak Floating Market) or at train track market (Maeklong Market). Or both 😉 If you want to take advantage of the day to pay a visit to both and also stop by Ayutthaya this tour is very good. You can also try to haggle with the taxi driver the trip throughout the day (between 1,000 and 1,500 THB all day) or ask at one of the many travel agencies in Bangkok and join a shared tour in Minivan.

Do we forget something? Insurance! What it is for you the best of the Thai capital? What is essential See and do in Bangkok?
