Have you considered going to some paradise island of Malaysia? Have you decided on Tioman but don't know how to get there? Let's see if we can clarify a bit the ideas with this post ...

How to get to Tioman from Kuala Lumpur by bus.

The destination is Mersing. There are many companies that make this journey, the most famous is Transnasional. The buses leave from the TBS (Terminal Bersepadu Selatan), every little time. It takes some 5 hours and it costs between 30 and 35 MYR. There may be places for the same day, although we recommend buying the ticket one day in advance. Perhaps it is best to talk to the guesthouse where you stay to see if they can process it for a small commission.

How to get to Tioman from Singapore by bus.

There are several companies that offer this service (such as Transnasional or Discovery Tours and Travels). We opted for this second. It leaves at 06:40 in front of the DFS Galleria shopping center, 5 minutes walking from the “Orchard” subway (the subway in Singapore opens at 05:30 - 05:45). It takes some 3 hours 30 minutes on arrival and leaves you directly on the Mersing Jetty, from where ferries depart to Tioman. The delay at the border is quite short, the visa process in Malaysia is very fast! Already in Malaysian territory makes a stop for breakfast (roti + teh tarik the best!).

  • The price of the one-way bus from Singapore to Mersing costs 22 SGD.
  • You can also book the bus + ferry with this company, with a price of 76 SGD round trip (both bus and ferry).

You can make the bus reservation from their website and see their status on their Facebook page.

Ferry from Mersing to Tioman.

We made the reservation with Blue water express Through its website. It does not have fixed schedules due to changes in the tides, although the day we went they had a choice of 09:30 and 11:30. Arriving at 10 at the Jetty, the 09:30 ferry was waiting and we were the last to board this (we thought we would take the one at 11:30). Perhaps it is best to write to [email protected] and ask for schedules for the days you want to go. We assume that there is also the possibility of buying tickets at the box office before leaving.

  • In Tioman does 6 stops different. The first is in the town of Genting and here it takes about an hour and a half. The others are: Paya, Tekek, ABC, Panuba and Salang Jetties.
  • The price is 35 MYR one way and 70 MYR round trip plus a small commission to pay with paypal. Soon you will receive a confirmation email and the ferry schedules. Eye, it is best to confirm it by replying to that email. Important, the money is not returned, so make sure the schedules before buying it (sending the mail).
  • Once you get to the Mersing Jetty, you go to the ticket office of the Blue Water Express (I think it was 8) and show the reservation. They will have the tickets there and will make you confirm the return date.

Entrance fee to Tioman marine park.

It costs MYR 5 for the entrance to the island and the marine park fee of MYR 20 (we, “for being students” pay 15 MYR).
