Day 7: PRAGUE: Jewish Quarter

Thursday, May 13, 2010

Today we woke up with rain and it hasn't stopped all day and when I say this it is totally like this: all day long. Seeing that the sky was not clearing, we decided that we would return to the Jewish quarter of Prague with rain, to visit the synagogues, the cemetery and the whole neighborhood, something that yesterday, our third day in Prague, we did very superficially.
We have had breakfast at the hotel in Prague, the Archibald City, a fairly complete breakfast and about 8 o'clock we have started.
If you are going to visit many places of interest and attractions in the city you will save money by booking the Prague Card, which includes public transport and the Petrín funicular.

First of all, we had to return the rental car in the Czech Republic, so we have gone to the Hilton hotel to return it and incidentally, rub around for a while with the luxury they have there.
Then, half lost and without detaching ourselves from our plane, we have set off, bordering the river towards the Jewish quarter of Prague called Josefov. That has taken us a little time for a walk.
An interesting option if it is your first time in the city and you want to know its history better is to book this complete tour of Prague or this free tour of Prague Free!, Both with a guide in Spanish.

Prague

We could not believe what we were seeing when we reached the first synagogue: there was a huge queue to enter and in the streets they only saw umbrellas and more umbrellas.

We visited the Old Jewish Cemetery in Prague, an overwhelming place with a lot of history. The cemetery causes us a special effect, although we cannot be calm at any time.

Old Jewish Cemetery in Prague

Due to the lack of space the bodies have been buried on top of each other, reaching more than 10 stacks.

Old Jewish Cemetery in Prague

It shows that we are already in The city of Prague is one of the most visited in Europe, but we did not expect it to be so much and less a rainy day.
This makes us go much slower and we spend the whole morning touring the Jewish quarter of Prague with rain.
It is spectacular, not only the synagogues, but also the neighborhood itself and what it symbolizes.
If you are interested in the history of this neighborhood we recommend you book this tour with a guide in Spanish that includes the entrance to the most important synagogues and the cemetery.

The Jewish Quarter of Prague

We have only been here for a few days and we see that this city is for a walk, to “eat it” walking through every corner.
The Spanish synagogue is also spectacular, we recommend that you spend some time in this area of the city and do not run it.
Seeing that it does not stop raining, we go to the Old Town Square, where the Astronomical Clock is and where we have finished every day, for one reason or another.

Prague

We believe it is the day it is and whatever the weather is like, all the people of Prague are concentrated in this square. Incredible, but everything and it is raining without stopping, there is no pin.
We stop to eat in a restaurant, in front of the astronomical clock and confirm that prices in Prague rise like foam compared to the rest of the country.
In this restaurant apart from the meal, we pay 8 euros for the change, for 2 coffees. Not bad at all, right?
Seeing that it does not stop raining, we stroll around the square for a while and go to the hotel for a while to rest.
