Day 4: TREBON - TELC - KÁRSTIC CAVES OF MORAVIA - BRNO

Monday, May 10, 2010

Today we got up a little later, since yesterday we won half a day to the planning we have and today we want to visit the karst caves of Moravia from Telc, and then tour this beautiful city.
We have had breakfast and we take the opportunity to go down to the reception of the Hotel Zlata Hvezda hotel to connect, since we continue without any extra connection in cafes or restaurants.
About 9 in the morning we have made our way to Telc, which will be our first stop today.
It took an hour or so to get from Trebon to Telc, with our rental car in the Czech Republic, always on secondary roads, something that we have not been able to guess if it is on a whim of our GPS or why there are no more options.

The good thing about it is that we go through small villages, which dot the green fields and make the journey very pleasant.

Telc

Telc is small and the area we want to visit is all very close, so the visit does not last long.
We start crossing one of the bridges, to reach the main square, where we meet again with the magnificent Renaissance houses that surround it.

Telc

There, as usual, we recreate ourselves for a while, walking and taking pictures.
Then we headed to the Church of San Jacobo el Viejo de Telc, then go to the "small door" and when we have crossed it, we have found a large English-style park, which we have traveled quietly.

Telc

After this, we have taken a quick walk to the castle, passing through the Church of the Sacred Name of Jesus.

Telc

Seeing that it is still early, we have decided, which we had already shuffled last night while we had dinner in Trebon, that before going to Brno, we were going to go through one of the important points of our planning that we had as optional if we had time: the karst caves of Moravia from Telc
So without further ado, we have gone straight there. Our GPS brand will take 1 hour and 40 minutes and has not lacked reason.

We have arrived at Moravian karst caves at lunchtime, so we have gone to get the tickets directly. In the same office you get the train that takes you to one of the caves and the ticket to the cave in question.
We have requested the entry of 3 in the afternoon, to eat before in a restaurant that we have seen next door and although we have no opinions, it does not seem to be bad.
At 3 to 20, our train leaves for the Punkevní cave and in less than 10 minutes we planted ourselves at the entrance.
We see that it is a guided circuit and we also see that 30 crowns have to be paid to take photos, so there we are going to pay our right to photograph ticket.

The karst caves of Moravia

The visit to the karst caves of Moravia is 40 minutes and another 20 on the boat that leads along the river inside the cave.

The karst caves of Moravia

This promises. And so it has been: we have come up with an incredible impression of the visit, impressive stalactites and stalagmites and a spectacular atmosphere. Definitely a visit more than recommended on any route through the Czech Republic.

The karst caves of Moravia

The only bad thing is that they have taken us to all roads and even in many moments we have stayed the last ones, for stopping to take a picture.
The tour of the karst caves of Moravia with the boat It also impresses, as it is a way to see these formations from another point of view.

The karst caves of Moravia

This visit has broken a bit with what we have been doing these days, so it has "refreshed" us from the visits to cities that we have done so far.
After this, we go straight to pick up the rental car in the Czech Republic from the parking lot (next to the information offices) and get on our way to Brno.
It took about 30 minutes to get from the karst caves of Moravia to Brno and the first thing we have done has been to go to the hotel in Brno, the Hotel Pod Špilberkem, located in the street of the castle, so it is very central.
The surprise is when we enter the room: large, huge sink, all very clean and has wifi, free parking and all for 65 euros. We have certainly made the right choice after reviewing the accommodation recommendations in Brno.
Although we took the hotels contracted from Spain, for the moment none has been as we expected, although it is true that all have been very well, none had “fulfilled” everything they announced, especially on the issue of internet connection until we have reached East.
We have rested half an hour and we have decided to go to visit what we have planned of the brno city.
Thus we also advance time for tomorrow, that we have a most complete day.
We have decided to make the circuit on foot of Brno that marks the guide, so as not to get involved and not miss anything.
A good option to know the history of the city and not miss anything important is to book this free tour of Brno Free! With guide in Spanish.
We have started in the Church of San Jacobo, to continue later and meet the main square of Brno, there we have not been able to resist the temptation to sit on one of the terraces and have a drink, while we contemplate the "life pass".

We have already observed that this city is more cosmopolitan, there is "more life", which should not be better, but ultimately, there is more atmosphere.

Brno

After this break, we have gone to take a few pictures in the Plague Column, the house of the Four Idiots and we have gone in search of the old Town Hall, where, passing through the main door, you find the building number 5 of the street, where it is said that 5 meters above the ground you see the face of a man, which according to legend He was stoned there alive.

Brno

We have not found it. And that we have passed 4 times, because of not leaving without seeing it.
After not seeing this man's face and giving up we have gone to see the brno cathedral, another of the essentials in this city.

Brno

A few more photos and we have already gone to wander, which is what we are doing more these days.
About 9 pm we have decided that it was time for dinner and without much thought we have seen one of those “fast food restaurants” that we only use on vacation and in cases of trouble, but hey, one day is one day and as We are not very hungry or eager to search, we have entered McDonalds directly.
At 10 pm we are already at our hotel, with the intention of reviewing tomorrow's planning and taking advantage of the Wi-Fi connection, while it lasts.
