Day 1: BARCELONA - PRAGUE - KARLOVY VARY

Friday, May 7, 2010

7 in the morning, the alarm sounds. The day has finally come when we get back on a trip and this time it is one of the least visited countries in Europe and the least information we have found on the internet, the Czech Republic. Our first objective upon arrival will be Visit Karlovy Vary from Prague by rental car.
We leave home soon, on our way to Barcelona airport, since our flight to Prague leaves early.
We got there with enough time, so we have time to get acquainted with the new Terminal 1, since last year, on our trip to the US West Coast we were going with the most fair time and we only had time for breakfast and little else.

We see that all flights to the north of Spain and those of Milan, Berlin have been canceled ... due to the eruption of the Icelandic volcano that has stirred up all the European airspace.
Ours to Prague has no complications, so after eating something and buying a magazine, we go to the boarding gate.
We take off with a little delay and we have the first contact with the Czech company Czech Airlines and we have to say that at first sight the planes are quite comfortable and they give us a little snack and in 2 hours and a half, we land in Prague.

We decided to change some euros, but we see that the change is quite low, so we opted to get some cash with the card, which we will later see was not necessary.
We take our bags and go in search of the Sixt company, which is the company assigned to us which will be our rental car in the Czech Republic in the next few days.
After a few minutes locating ourselves at the airport, we found it and made the paperwork in a few minutes that fly by.

We already have our car, now we just need to get the GPS out of the backpack and head for Karlovy Vary from Prague, our first destination on this trip to the Czech Republic.
As soon as we leave Prague airport, we are surrounded by a green landscape, but really green. The color of the fields we are seeing draws our attention. We don't know very well why but we expected a much more arid landscape and it never ceases to amaze us.
We cross several small towns and after 1 hour and a half, we arrive at our first destination, Karlovy Vary from Prague.

Karlovy Vary from Prague

Between one thing and another it is already 7 in the afternoon, so we don't have much time, so we opted to go for a walk and have dinner near the river.
We are about 2 hours walking through the streets of Karlovy Vary, without stopping too much, since tomorrow morning we plan to visit the city carefully and now we just want to have a first vision and a contact.
We begin to see everyone with the typical jar to go drinking water from the different sources that are in the city and we already look at one that we like, you understand that by that we mean that tomorrow we are going to buy it from first hour, right?

The hunger begins to tighten, so we go to an Italian restaurant recommended in the guide and on Tripadvisor, the Ristorante Venezia.
There we eat a salad and a good plate of pasta, with our drinks and coffees, all for about 600 crowns. With this we have begun to see that food is not going to be expensive in the Czech Republic.
All this enlivened with live music, which makes us stay a little longer and enjoy a desktop in one of the liveliest areas of the city.
About 10.30 at night our body begins to say that it needs rest and we return to the hotel. Tomorrow we have a busy day in this rental car route through the Czech Republic.
