Day 8: PRAGUE: Mala Strana neighborhood, Charles Bridge, Prague Castle

Friday, May 14, 2010

Today we wake up with a pleasant surprise and that is when we look out the window of our room hotel in Prague, the Archibald City we see that the day is presented without rain.
We must take advantage of this truce, so after showering, we go down without hesitation for breakfast while we review the places we will know today, among which are Mala Strana neighborhood across the Charles bridge from Prague.

Charles bridge in Prague

We are lucky to arrive early so we can enjoy it almost alone (at this time we did not know what we expected to see when we returned)

Charles bridge in Prague

After cross the Charles Bridge, we directly access another of the most emblematic places of the city, the Mala Strana neighborhood At this time we are going practically without tourists, which makes this trip a delight for the senses.
After getting lost by Amazing streets of Mala Strana we arrive at Prague Castle, perhaps the most visited place in the city and most photographed next to the Charles Bridge.

This is one of the castles to which we will devote much of our time on this trip to the Czech Republic, as it is a symbol of the city and we believe it is worth knowing first hand.
This visit will take us practically all morning, so if you want to make this visit, have a few hours to enjoy it to the fullest.

Prague Castle

Without knowing it, even if we are inside, we make a mistake and enter some rooms, where we have been “captured” for more than an hour, giving explanations in Czech. From the words we can understand, we assume they are the president's rooms.
After all the visit to Prague Castle, we check that the famous Golden Alley It is closed for renovations.
The truth is that this does not leave us a good taste, since we had special interest in seeing it, but hey, as they say "there is no harm that for good it does not come" and so we will have the perfect excuse to return to Prague.
A good option is to book a guided tour in Spanish so you don't miss any details and get to know the history of the castle better.
If you do not want to take a guided tour you can book this ticket with which you will avoid the long queues that form in the access.

Prague Castle

Following inside the Prague Castle we go up to him Strahov monastery to visit his library, going through El Loreto before and reaching the Strahov library that although we know that it is under construction, we enter to see if we can see the other room, since the philosopher is totally under renovation. In the anteroom there is a large collection of dissected fish and the other room lets you see it only through the door without being able to enter and we have to say that it is beautiful.

The Mala Strana neighborhood of Prague

After the visit, we go down a street to the left where we enjoy some incredible views of the city of Prague and from Mount Petrin, since from here the whole city and the enclave in which it is located can be seen very well. Almost when it's time to eat we start down one of the streets that lead to the square Mala Strana, looking to get lost for a few minutes without a fixed direction, one of the things we like to do on our trips.

Views of Prague from the Mala Strana neighborhood

As we go through the streets of the neighborhood of Mala Strana we do not give credit to what we are seeing, the streets are bursting with people, but in a totally exaggerated way, so much so that we take several photos because we had not seen this in any city.

It seems that everyone has concentrated on the Mala Strana neighborhood in Prague at this time of day.
We had a good time until we found a place to eat, no longer looking for something we like if not somewhere where there is room to sit since not only the streets are bursting with people.
An interesting option to learn more about the history of the neighborhood is to book this tour with a guide in Spanish.
After eat in the neighborhood of Mala Strana and before crossing the Charles Bridge again we go to the Kampa Island where can we see the john lennon wall and take a few pictures of the Charles Bridge from this island.

Charles bridge in Prague

We get the next surprise when we arrive at the Charles Bridge and we have to spend more than half an hour to cross it from the people who are concentrating right now here. It is incredible, it seems that we are in procession, walking with slow steps, one after the other without leaving a spontaneously formed row to prevent a knot from forming.

Incredible the crowd on the Charles Bridge in Prague

Without knowing it, when leaving the bridge, we take the street in front and we will stop directly to the Theater where they represent the work "Alice" of the genre of black theater.
We had reserved the entrance, although we still haven't paid for it and we had doubts about whether we would arrive in time to see it. So since we were in front, we did not doubt it and we collected the tickets, so we anticipated this and in passing we thought that it will be good for us to be sitting 2 hours. You can book the tickets here.
Since the show starts at 7 p.m., we take advantage of these minutes to look at the souvenir shops and return to a puppet store that we saw yesterday and that fell in love with some of its pieces.
The one we like costs 170 euros to change and does not measure more than 15 centimeters, so it seems quite expensive, so we leave it hanging, hoping that one day we will continue waiting for us here when we return.
At 6.30 in the afternoon we return to the theater to see the function of "black theater"
The truth is that we are not too clear about what we are going to see and when the work is finished we have to say that we liked it much more than we expected and the adaptation of the book is something “different” to what we imagined. The truth is that this work is 100% recommended.
It's already 9 p.m. when we leave the theater, so we go to Wenceslas Square for dinner although we see the controversial before statue of St. Wenceslas by David Cerny in the Lucerne Passage of the Wenceslas Square in Prague.

After dinner and after 10 pm, we check that it is late enough to return to the hotel to rest.
