Good forecasts from the Eurobarometer survey for tourism in Europe in 2011

The recent publication of the results of the survey on tourism forecasts in Europe in this year 2011 confirm the clear outlook improvement for tourism activity, and specifically for Spain.

This Eurobarometer survey, made by the European Comission for the third consecutive year, it shows the attitudes of European citizens towards tourism for this year 2011.

Below you have some key data and forecasts of this tourism Eurobarometer 2011 that took place in the month of February.

In the poll 30,000 citizens of the 27 countries of the European Community have participated, as well as citizens of other European countries, such as Norway, Serbia, Malta, Turkey and Iceland.

  • 58 percent of Europeans claim that they will travel to some country in Europe during this year 2011.
  • 68 percent of Europeans have traveled on vacation or other private reasons during the year 2010, compared to 65 percent who did so in 2099.
  • Italy is the preferred destination among European countries to travel in 2011 (11.5 percent of respondents).
  • Spain occupies the second position among the preferences of European citizens (8.6 percent), followed by France (8.2 percent).
  • Main reasons to choose holiday destination are the local attractions (32 percent), the cultural heritage (27 percent) and the leisure offer (14 percent)
  • 36 percent of respondents point out the search for rest and leisure on main reason for your vacation, followed by sun and beach (18 percent) and visiting friends or family (17 percent).
  • In the East Tourism Eurobarometer 2011 it is emphasized that the majority of citizens (57 percent) prefer organize the holiday trip on your own.
  • The main means of transport chosen among those who organize the vacation trip on their own it is the car or motorcycle (44 percent), although they have grown compared to the 2009 survey who use the plane (39 percent)
